The US Senate is voting now on the Graham Cassidy bill.. Please let your Congress Member know this bill will hurt Mainers

New Effort to Repeal ACA, Same Results; Millions Would Lose Health Care Coverage

This week, the U.S. Senate is expected to take up the Graham-Cassidy bill, the latest effort to overturn the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and jeopardize health care for thousands of Mainers, including those with pre-existing conditions.   Not only will this bill hurt Maine people, it will cost the state $1 billion in federal funding in 2027, relative to current law.   It also bypasses a transparent, bipartisan process underway to reform the ACA in a way that doesn’t take health care away from millions of people. Both of Maine’s senators have said they favor this fairer, more sensible approach.    But they are under enormous pressure from the White House and others in the Senate.   Please call them and let them know that the Graham-Cassidy bill will not work for Maine. Tell them that:

  • Senators Cassidy and Graham are wrong when they say Maine would see higher federal funding under their bill.
  • Mainers already face more expensive health care than most of the rest of the country; Graham-Cassidy would only make it worse.
  • The latest bill would allow states to waive ACA requirements that protect people with pre-existing conditions, bar annual or lifetime limits on coverage, and cover key services like comprehensive reproductive health services for women.

Please tell Senator Collins and Senator King to stay strong and vote against the Graham-Cassidy bill! They need to hear that we support their vote against this bill.
