With minimum-wage increase, Maine families can expect another financial boost in new year

A September 2018 report from the Maine Center for Economic Policy (MECEP) showed the number of Mainers under 18 living in poverty has declined significantly, going from roughly 43,000 children in 2016 to 33,000 in 2017, a difference of 10,000 children that can be attributed to the 2016 law — which requires Maine’s minimum wage to increase, by one dollar increments, to $12 an hour by 2020.
