“We’re moving in the right direction. With the end of the last legislative session, Maine really achieved an important milestone in tax fairness. And that milestone was that we’re now one of five states, starting in 2020, where the bottom 40%, or people who earn less than $36,00o in income, will actually be paying less per dollar in state and local taxes than the top 1%. That’s one measure of tax fairness, and at least on that measure we’re starting to fare a little better.”
