A significant number of Mainers will see their pay rise when the state’s minimum wage increases to $14.15 an hour on Jan. 1, according to a recent analysis by the Maine Center for Economic Policy.
Maine’s minimum wage is indexed to inflation each year under a referendum passed by voters in 2016. This year the minimum wage was set at $13.80 an hour, with a lower sub-minimum rate of $6.90 an hour for tipped workers. The minimum wage for tipped workers in 2024 will be $7.08 an hour.
