When Hard Work Isn’t Enough – Fostering Opportunity for Maine’s Working Families

In 2008, nearly ten thousand working families in Maine lived under the federal poverty line, and nearly 38,000 working families struggled under the “low-income” threshold or the 200% poverty line. These families deserve better economic opportunities. This Choices presents several key efforts that can improve the prospect of quality jobs in Maine and the ability of Maine’s workers to take advantage of these jobs.
