In Maine, companies are already prohibited from forcing non-compete agreements for employees earning at or below 400% of the federal poverty level (which in 2024, is around $60,000 for a household of one). Arthur Phillips, economic policy analyst for Maine Center for Economic Policy, says that the ban should be expanded to all workers, but realistically under the Trump Administration, the next step would be to expand the current ban for lower wage workers across Maine.
