) – The Maine Center for Economic Policy (MECEP) today issued a statement thanking Senators Collins and King for voting down a proposal known as Cassidy-Graham, an extraordinarily damaging plan to repeal the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and gut Medicaid.
MECEP’s statement follows:
“The cost of health care should not bankrupt Maine’s families, and Congress should not make it harder for families to make ends meet. But efforts to repeal the ACA placed thousands of Maine families at risk of losing health insurance, contributed to
rising health care premiums, and created great
uncertainty for health insurers.
“Hundreds and thousands of Mainers called, emailed, and visited the offices of our senators, and MECEP joined alongside Maine people by providing
facts and correcting
misleading statements.
“Senator Susan Collins and Senator Angus King listened to Maine people and voted down this dangerous proposal. MECEP thanks Senators Collins and King for protecting health care for 161,000 Mainers.
“But as the White House and congressional leaders now attempt to pass a budget plan that would make trillions in tax cuts that threaten Medicaid, Medicare, and Social Security, leaders on health care must continue to stand strong in rejecting proposals that would harm Maine people.”
